This is a beginner level course designed for all and is designed in two sections one is today and the other one is next week at the same time. Do not worry if you have never done printmaking it can be a great tool for those who really want to do art and mix media. You will all have fun creating your own print, coloring it and then printing it.

Imaging is everything so make sure to have a good idea of what you are going to create, abstract is also a great idea.

By the end of this course you will have learned the basics of printmaking and you will be able to know the basics presentations of a print and how to stand out. I will show you how it works so that you can all follow and then we can all do it together. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions in case you have missed a step or another.

This class will be followed by the second class the following week to finish our project and see the final result. Both classes are given for a total of 50$ per student.

Details on the class: PROJECT: Cardboard Plates Techniques Reduction and Additive Method

Draw with pencil first and then when you are sure of your lines cut into the cardboard, just a layer will be enough, you do not need to cut off all the cardboard.

Play with shapes, textures, lines and depth while you create an image of your choice on two pieces of  mat-board 8”x110” by cutting out pieces.

Try to incorporate foundation elements in the design (rhythm, balance, movement, focal points, we will print it with black ink). Consider materials you want to add like tape, wet media (like plaster) or fabric. Do not use solid objects nor sharp objects. Add the material chosen, then once you like the design glue it.

Seal all 6 sides of the mat-board with two layers of shellac that you will have diluted with denatured alcohol (50/50). Print when dry.

To print you need to have a BFK paper, that will need to have been soaked in water (in your kitchen sink for at least 5 minutes, that you will take out and hand dry as shown in my demonstration to be able to print.

Roll black or color ink, then wipe (I will teach you with a demonstration how this part is done).

With this class you will be learning how to create a plate using cardboard.

You will also learn how to print the finished plate and make one black and white print.

You will learn what it means to make an edition in printmaking, (when you print a second print that is exactly the same (it’s called an edition of 2).

You will learn the right way to sign your prints.

Sign your print in pencil.

I would appreciate it if you sent me a photo of your finished work and of the cardboard for my records at edelweiss.calcagno@gmail.com or via text at 2407019100.

The material used are a 2HB pencil, a cardboard, some recycled flat materials with texture of your choice (no metal, just texture, all kinds of papers, leaves, tape), glue, BFK paper, newsprint paper, black printmaking ink preferred or oil painting ink, thin plastic gloves, a spoon, water, towels, Shellac finish sealer (amazon).
